Often resembling a laboratory of sorts,
the studio is where chemistry comes alive, pushing me to continually dream up perfect colour palettes and complementary textures. I’ve always been drawn to mixing my own glazes, as I adore the intense discipline involved. But even despite the control the process demands, it's the kiln that has the final say.
For me, inspiration comes from everyday surroundings, whether it be nature, textiles, or travelling back in time to unearth ancient Japanese pottery. Oftentimes my work is embellished with plant and floral patterning using a 10th century Spanish technique known as ‘Cuerda Seca’, meaning ‘dry cord’.
Wax is applied as an outline, then different coloured and textured glazes are painted within, typically layered to create depth to the surface. This approach to surface design allows me the freedom to dream big, creating colourful, flowing designs with forever evolving patterns, making each piece unique.
My path in clay began at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, where I completed the Craft and Design program, specializing in Ceramics. There, I acquired invaluable knowledge, a practiced skill, and incomparable inspiration from my professors and peers. Shortly after, I was awarded a residency at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, Canada, the city I still call home, where I currently create in a beautiful studio space in The Junction with my French Bulldog, Winnie.
